Is there any artist in particular you feel you really connect with musically? In the past few months I managed to get all music done. Everything's under a microscope, nothing's sacred. How do you go about selecting collaborators? So here we are, just us.
Diabolic: Sometimes I don't even know the method to my own madness, but most of the time, my decision making process changes as the record is progressing, but I generally rock with people I respect and appreciate musically. On top of that, I give them a view of who I am as a person. The execution of music videos, tour support and publicity is what I ask for so we can take this to the next level. There's a lot more to it, marketing being the biggest factor on top of the fact that the business is flooded with artists trying to make it. They demanded they own my masters forever and to top it all off they wanted to take creative control away from me, watering down my music. The album contains productions from , Engineer, Junior Makhno, and more.
I did the music organically, just taking tracks that I liked, rocking to them and letting the record take on it's own life. I'm real happy with the result, and I'm honored that I was given the opportunity. Kids should be looking for better role models than musicians if you ask me. It's a vicious cycle and a constant hustle. These labels offered me sucker deals. My real advice would be, fuck this bullshit, become a doctor or a lawyer.
Diabolic: Don't get it twisted, I'm nice off the head but I don't do that for songs. Sometimes I'll just breeze through a song, catch the vibe and it's written in 20 minutes. I got fucked where I was at. Diabolic: This is a classic record. The production is dope and the entire project is reminiscent of what Hip-Hop was supposed to be.
My supporters deserve a better version of me. They wanted to take a huge percentage of what I generate while spending as little as possible. The game changed, talent means very little nowadays. I truly feel it's some of my best work, and reflects more of my personality than previous releases. I was trying to do what I felt like people wanted to hear and put myself into a box. I think everyone will really enjoy it. No, I don't think so.
After several delays and the subsequent abandonment of Viper Records due to Diabolic's desire to retain creative control over his productions, it was announced that the album would be released by his newly formed WarHorse Records on September 16, 2014. Between raising my kids and starting my own label, I grew up a lot. Diabolic: It goes without saying I'm a little older and, I'd like to think, more mature. While some will disregard this rule in favor of ignorant ideals, those who make it aware that they stand on the shoulders of giants will more often than not last longer than the one hit wonders and trend followers. Let's be honest, that's some bucket list shit for every rapper who loves Hip-Hop. The answer is to let my supporters be my label.
Diabolic: I wouldn't say it's so much 'violent' as it is just calling things as they are. Speaking for myself only, I don't like the Internet age. Other times, it's me going back to it over the course of a week, and being ready to scrap the track all together. What's different about your life now when compared to then? You need to know how to promote yourself, how to get to the blogs, taste makers, etc. I had my reservations about doing a Kickstarter for obvious reasons. So I asked myself, how do I give them this better version of me? My debut album was poorly promoted at best, had little to no in house support from the label and on top of that, they took a large chunk of the profit being generated while simultaneously using shady, creative accounting to withhold as much of my cut as possible. Nonetheless, I love all the collab work I've done. Either way I get the results that I'm looking for. . Everyone's famous in their own little world and people have managed to get dumber while having the answer to every question at their fingertips. How has your music changed?
